Anyone ever really read the calorie counts on junk foods? Hubby loves chips and that type of snack. He brought home a bag of corn chips tonight. They looked kind of good so I thought I would have some. As I'm opening the bag I glanced at the calorie chart. 280 calories for a 1/2 cup! A 1/2 cup is a about 10 little corn chips! I could easily munch my way through 1,000 calories just watching TV. Now if I could just get him to stop eating them.....
That's why I've taken to reading the labels on pretty much everything. There are all sorts of stuff which have way more calories than you would think.
I think that even if you are not actually counting calories, reading the label is a really good thing to do. It'll also help you find healthier alternatives.
I love ice cream too. I used to meet a friend and we would go for a Dairy Queen Blizzard for a treat. One day I was online and just looked up their nutrition facts. 750 calories for one small ice cream treat! I'm trying to keep my count between 1200 and 1500 so blowing 1/2 of my days allotment on a treat just doesn't seem like a good idea. It's really surprising how all the things we think of as treats as sooooo bad. Guess I'll stick with my grapes.

Men's Health magazine publishes the Eat This Not That series of books. What an eye-opener!!! I get emails from them quite regularly and they have some interesting information in them, enough so that I don't find the emails bothersome enough to unsubscibe. Go to www.menshealth.com to sign up. I like that they give you nutritional information on most popular foods, and I can't believe how much sodium is in the food out there.

I used to live for Dairy Queen vanilla ice cream cones dipped in chocolate. The first bite was like stepping into heaven. Then I read some of their calorie information and ............ That was the end of that. I had always treated myself when I went to town to mail packages from my little business. The cones were small and how bad could they be? I think that is where all my fat came from in the first place! At first my mouth would water when I went past without stopping, but now I never even look at the place anymore. It is really in the past. How I wish I'd have read the calorie information in the first place.

I know what you mean Kesach, my weakness is Ice Cream Floats, my co-workers suggested (Wendy's) Frost Floats Annonymous I was so bad. When I was in college my "crutch" would be a Chocolate Raspberry Yogurt Sundae from Friendlys. They knew me so well that if there was a line, my sundae would be ready when I got to the front of the line. This was for when I was writing papers and as Social Work was my major there were LOTS of papers. One night I went in for a second sundae, the waitress said you were here already, my reply "tough paper". Problem is I'm still carrying that A on my hips, YEARS later.

How true! And probably most of us can look back and figure out exactly where all the fat came from.
OK, everyone, what was it that YOU ate way too much of?

Bread, me too. I love bread. Then the ice cream cones dipped in chocolate. When I ate a lot of chocolate covered raisins, I could still lose weight. Much lower in calories than ice cream, for sure.
