I've had my WiiFit for 7 days now (Christmas present), and for the last 4 days I have completed an hour long routine. I just checked off every single option it gave me thinking it'd make me toned in no time! WELL! I am aching everywhere, in places I didn't know I had muscles. I haven't lost any weight yet (in fact I have over-compensated, over-ate and now I am 2 lbs heavier). Is anyone else raw to the bone here? The only thing that is motivating me is the fear that all this pain will have gone to waste if I don't keep it up every day. Love the Warrior, hate the Jackhammer.
Well, aching muscles are a good sign that you are working them, and yes, I've discovered all sorts of muscles I didn't know I owned
However you shouldn't overdo it. Your muscles need time to develop, so you should rest them periodically, especially at the beginning. A lot of people overdo it and risk doing themselves an injury.
Mix in more fun stuff with your muscle exercises, have rest days every few days, try not to do so much in one go.
If you overdo it you'll just find that you get sick of it all and your body starts to rebel. Take it slow, and build up what you do gradually.
There's no point rushing, fitness should be a long term, life-long, goal, not just something you do for a few weeks and then give up on because you overdid it.
Totally agree with Paul. It's never recommended to work the same muscles everyday with no rest. Your muscles need time to heal and you can do yourself damage by overworking them. Try to concentrate on different body areas every other day or take a day off completely to allow yourself time to rest and heal.
It's good to start off with fewer reps and work your way up so you build muscle slowly. Just remember that you didn't gain weight in a few days or weeks and it won't come off that quickly either. Good eating habits go hand in hand with exercise if you want to gain weight control. Keep us posted on your progress. You'll find lots of helpful people here ready to give you advice or a pat on the back.
On top of not doing the routine every day you may want to drink more water when you complete your workout. Also, stretching is MUCHO important! I actually heard the water tip from watching Biggest Loser. They said it flushes out the toxins that make you sore. I haven't had a sore muscle since I heard that last year. Stretching after your workout will help with soreness as well and it is also good for you. You should warm up and stretch before as well but people often don't realize they should stretch afterward.
I was sore from the first few days on the Wii especially with the Yoga, but eventually I noticed my muscles loosening up and getting stronger. I work on an assembly line and am used to working at a quick pace, if anything hurts me now it's my ankles from all the running they make you do on that Ea Games workout. If you stand all day at your job and you run 5 or 6 laps on that Wii you'll definately feel it, I am thinking about skipping the running all together because my ankles can't take much more of that abuse even running in tennis shoes.

The trainers (tennis shoes) might be making the problem worse. Here's an article about some recent research suggesting that running barefoot might be better:
What I do is to run on a little trampoline. The trampoline absorbs all the shock, not the feet, ankles and knees.
Trampolines of this type aren't at all expensive, but have a look at the springs before you buy one. Make certain they are big. Some of the very cheap trampolines use inferiour springs and they snap. The best springs, I have found, bulge out slightly in the middle.

Hey those were two really good articles, I just figured it would have to be better to run in shoes versus bare foot. I did run barefoot in the beginning and never hurt at all, so maybe I will try that tomorrow barefoot. Also I love the trampoline idea for running, but isn't that hard to keep your balance on that? I will keep that in mind, don't know if my dad would be happy about me having a trampoline in the house LOL!
