This question may seem silly, but I am so curious about this.
I have done both the cycling and the jogging. The cycling is labeled as 2.5 METS and the jogging is marked as 5 METS. For the jogging I really just do a fast march-in-place because I need to keep it low impact. But I do fully engage my arms - so its more like a fast-paced walk. When I cycle I am on the balance board, but my arms are not moving other than to steer my route with the wii-mote.
None-the-less, I seem to get a far more rigorous workout from the cycling than I do from the jogging. I really break a sweat when I am on the island cycling free run. So how is it that the jogging is twice as many METS than the cycling?
I guess my question is this, for anyone reading this - exactly how fast are you moving your feet and how high are you raising your knees in each of these exercises? For example, in Island Cycling, I would say that I am stepping 2X faster than I do in Rhythm Parade (which is a good basis for comparison because it is a fixed-pace). When I am jogging, I am going a bit slower because the system tells me not to run ahead of the Mii I am following.
I really just want to know how others are using these exercises, and if anyone else is experiencing the same thing I am?
I think my experience is the same as yours. I run as fast as I can without passing my guide, but I never break a sweat. When I do the Free cycling, I get totally drenched. So I feel like I am getting much more out of that exercise.

Wii Fit doesn't measure you're actual activity. It bases the Met count on how many minutes you've been playing so you could be putting very little exercise into it and it will still say the same met's. You can sit on the couch and wave the remote around and get the same reading.
This is one of the reasons I don't like this program. It's fun but it gives people a false sense of how much energy they are really using.
Cycling has an advantage, since all the muscles of the leg and arm is used. We can also increase speed, but the disadvantage is its done in one place. __________________ *EDIT: Spam link removed by admin*
Nice thread. Very difficult and amazing question. I think both things are very effective and has equal benefits. We could do both exercises. I like both exercise.
