Hooray! Mastery over that persnickity jump. Don't even try the Duckling Lake jump. You will tear all your hair out and once you get it, you will never get it again.
What IS the duckling lake jump? Please do tell me!
I am still trying to figure out how to (1) jump onto roofs and (2) jump from the wall of Dry Lake Bed over to the top of the Ruins I read a post in here somewhere where someone said they did this, but then fell off a ledge. How on earth could you leap from the cliff across the road and land on the top of the Ruins? I spent a good 10 minutes in Dry Lake Bed just trying to figure out how to ride up the side of the rock to even try... the walls are just too high.
I think I am pretty swift with my shiny new bike - so I continue to be amazed with some of these tricks I read about!
DL jump: As you leave the triangle with the balloon, there is a hyper Mii waving- go to her right and there is a tiny spot where you can go over the edge and land on the plateau below. In the death plummets thread there is a picture of that tiny spot and pictures of the fall and landing. After seeing the picture, I got it on my first try!! Then I tried over and over, finally getting it one more time about a half hour later. Subsequent attempts were a waste of time. I don't even try anymore because it surely does not save time, even if you could fit it into a good route. Too hard to do it. But I do have a medal from the accomplishment that I wear and hold it over jvv. It is the only thing I have beat him at.
To jump onto a roof in town you have to take the launching ramp near the river heading toward town. Once you get on the roof it takes great effort to stay there! Fun to do though.
I don't think you can get out of the dry lake bed over the walls- if someone said they did, I missed that. Are you sure they did not mean from either the road going down from the castle just before the tunnel, or from up on the rocks at the dead end opening from the tunnel? And I read that you have to have your pet with you for that one. I haven't tried it yet. But from the dry lake bed- I don't think so.

These are the 2 posts I am referring to - I think I may be mixing them up with each other - but one certainly implies you can get up over the walls in dry lake bed. The other one, well, I guess I am not sure I understand the starting point, but it still sounds like you can leap across the road to the Ruins.
Hello to all. After reading all of the great stuff you folks have posted, I'm hoping someone can tell me how to land on the ruins and stay there. (It would save several minutes in collecting the balloons.)
I cycle through the mountain to the dead-end spot, pick up my pet and then cycle up to the lone Mii. I turn around(facing the ruins)and line up my bike with the narrow little rock path. I start peddling(hard), halfway down the path I push A and my pet takes off and jumps over the road and I follow, pulling up on my handle bars and turning left as I jump.
After several tries, I was able to land on the bottom step of the ruins, then the next step up. Finally, I landed on the edge of the ruins and was so excited that I lost my balance and fell off. The second time I landed on the top edge, I fell off again.
(I have tried to jump without my pet and I usually splat on the road or drown.) (When at the dead-end point facing the ruins, the steps I'm landing on are to the right on the cliff.)
Has anyone been able to jump on the wall in the Dry Lake Bed and death plummet off the cliff there? In the dry lake bed, I hit the balloon and then head towards the left hand side of the wall in front of you. I pop a wheelie and end up on the wall. However, I just eventually fall off the cliff and end up back in the dry lake bed. Also, it is hard to get onto the wall. I do it about once out of every 10 or so tries. I guess you have to pop the wheelie at the right time and keep on riding. Just brake once you get on the wall or you'll just fall off the cliff. Sort of like the roof jumping. Has anyone else done this?

OK. The second one is talking about the dry lake bed, yes. But not about landing on the ruins. It would be fun to try to get up on that wall though, just for something new.
The first one is talking about the dead end spot that is off the tunnel behind the waterfall. You enter behind the waterfall, go for a while and then go to the right hand branch. There is a dead end spot where you can pick up a pet. If you climb the rocks on the left, there is a Mii up there, and it is from there that h8spiderz2 jumps off to the ruins. Also worth a try!
