This interview at MomLogic.com with Donna Schwartz Mills who lost 56 pounds with the help of a Wii, contains some gems of common sense advice on how to keep losing the pounds and using the Wii to stay motivated:

Quote:
Basically I was trying to avoid going to the gym. Every day, they would ask me, 'What activity have you done today?' And I hadn't done anything, so I fired up my daughter's Wii and tried boxing. I did that for a couple weeks and it helped motivate me. It got me moving and I started going to the gym. It got me inspired. And any time I couldn't get to the gym, I would do at least fifteen minutes on the Wii.

and...

Quote:
When my trainer went on vacation, I worked out with Wii Fit and did lunges and other exercises.

and finally...

Quote:
See what works for you. If it is something you don't like, you are not going to stick with it. Also what worked for you in your 20s might not work for you in your 40s. Give yourself permission to try new things.

This is so much down-to-earth advice from someone who has had some real success. Do what you enjoy and you are more likely to keep doing it, and you don't have to do lots of exercise to make a difference, just doing a little when you might not feel up to "proper exercise" can keep you motivated and moving.

Lots of people criticize Wii Fit and other fitness games for not being as good as a gym or "proper exercise", while missing the point: a gym membership is only any good if you can bring yourself to use it regularly. What the Wii and Wii Fit are great at is giving you no excuse to do a bit of exercise. It's fun, it's convenient, so why not do some? If you don't like an exercise, don't do it. If you only have 15 minutes, then do that, it's better than nothing.
