It looks like the idea of using the Wii for rehabilitation is really starting to take off, with new stories coming out nearly every week. This week sees a report of Ely Hospital in the UK using the Wii to help with the rehabilitation of stroke patients.
There is a common theme with most of these stories, the Wii and Wii Fit are not replacements for traditional therapies, but they make excellent additions. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation can often be boring and frustrating, so giving people something that they enjoy doing which also helps with the healing extends their treatment outside of the regular sessions and exercises.
Also, it gives people who might not be able to take part in normal sports, an opportunity to get a little bit active without and competitive having to be strong and fit. You don't have to be strong and fast to play Wii Tennis or Golf.
I think this also points to the best way to use Wii Fit and the other Exercise games: make sure you are doing something that you enjoy and you will keep doing it, which beats any number of "proper" exercises that you hate doing and therefore give up on.
