Hi folks, I'm new here today and thought I'd post my first thoughts on the best xmas pressie I've ever had.

I suffer intermittently from very low moods, part of the reason is SAD and that has been quite awful this winter in GB with so many grey days and very little sunlight. I've known for a long time that exercise helps me out of the doldrums but its always so difficult to find the motivation to start when you feel negative about everything and would rather just go back to bed. Well, the Wii has been just that motivation for me.

I've been using wiifit plus for nearly three weeks and my happy levels have bounced right up. I find it so easy to get on that board every day and do something fun. I've lost a couple of pounds which is good, but more than that it makes me feel so cheerful and energised - no more slinking back to bed to catch up on soaps, now i'm zooming around doing housework. I'm pleasantly tired by the evening and sleep really well, wake up in the morning and look forward to seeing the piggy!

The genius part of this, I think, is the island itself. I've been cycling round and round (cracked the expert level, yeeha!) in gorgeous sunshine, up and down the beach, and have completely negletted the fact that its raining/snowing/sleeting/freezing outside in the 'real' world. Everyday you get a little holiday. The whole family are at it now so its brought everyone together a bit more.

I just really hope that I can keep at it and not get bored. I'd love to hear from anyone who may have felt a similar effect.

That's great to hear. I got one for my son and his family for Xmas and they've been having a lot of fun with it. Dad plays with the 2 & 5 yr old doing cycling. The kids walk on the board and he does the steering. It's funny to listen to the 5 yr old yelling at him to "stay on the road"!

I've also found that the more I do the more energy I have. It's become habit now to just do my workouts and play some games. I even find when I've feeling kind of sluggish and bored that I often think that maybe I could play a game of tennis or skateboard a bit instead of going in search of a snack or a nap.

There's lots of good people on this forum and we have some little competitions going, especially in cycling you might want to join in on.

Likewise, this winter in the UK has been especially dark and miserable and doing some exercise most mornings has really helped give me a boost, along with taking Vitamin D. It seems to help with my sleeping pattern as well.

Rock on spring :)

Agreed, Wii Fit is great for happiness, getting together with the family, and obviously developing a healthier lifestyle.

Yeah totally agree there. If i've got a few minutes I do Segway rather than eat biscuits, hey, hey. Sounds like there's some good folks on here.

Yep, stay with us and party on! ;)

I second the Vitamin D motion. It is exactly what is needed in the sunless winter. Exercise, then, is like icing on the Happy Cake. lol.

Hi I am new here too and I agree with so much that you have said! I've been sleeping like a log ever since I started Wii-ing (he he) and it has helped to take my mind off the horrible dreary days (I too have SAD). I love the concept of the island and all the little routes to discover. I hate running, but now I am keen to have a little jog just to check out the scenery - I can't believe I am saying that!
It's so weird isn't it that now I seem to want to do Wii Fit rather than look for a snack in the kitchen..long may it continue!

I suffer from severe depression, and I like to eat when I am feeling down which is a horrible habit. I bought my Wii on December 16th, and I have been on it an hour everyday since then with friday as my only skip day. It has really given me something to get up for in the morning, I used to sleep in until 11:00 or later and now I am up at 8:00am working out until 9:00am. I eat a lot healthier than I used to, I gave up chocolate, pop, midnight snacking which was the worst to break for me. I have even went to a partial vega diet, I still eat cheese and eggs! I am not a total sadist

Sounds like Wii Fit has been good for us all! I love it and only wish I had more time for it. It's hard to find time for it at all lately and I hate that! I have tons of homework this week and hopefully I can get on it some anyway. It is sure worth it.

Sure enough, too, with not working out much this week I have been wanting to eat more and wanting sweets.

Just for the record I haven't wii'ed for a few days and I'm feeling a bit groggy now. Back on it tomorrow when I've got some time and will try out some smoother turns on the cycling to get my time down. Must try the boxing again and see if i can sort out my coordination on step aswell - can't wait!

How long before Wii gets prescribed by doctors, I wonder.
