Well, at 3 pounds from January (I assume you mean the first), then that would be half a pound per week on average. That's only a little slower than what I averaged last year. I lost about 40 pounds in 12 months. It was slow going, but I got there.
So long as it's going in the right direction then that's great
And more importantly it isn't going up! When I started my weight had been creeping up at about a quarter of a pound a week for several years, so the first challenge was to nip that in the bud. I count not getting heavier as I get older as a major personal success. It may not be going down very fast, but it is under control.
Have you tried keeping a food diary for a week or two? You may find that some of what you are eating is not as healthy as you think. I was really surprised when I did. Some of the things that I thought were ok turned out to be much worse than I expected. You need to weigh and measure everything, which is a bit of a pain, but it can also be really enlightening.
Oh, and the fact your clothes are feeling a bit loser is a really good sign. Concentrate on the positives. Progress can be slow, but that's fine so long as it's in the right direction
Maybe you need to step up your exercise to something a bit more vigorous to give your metabolism a boost. EA Sports Active is excellent. As Paul said keeping a food diary can really help. It's surprising sometimes what we think is good for us but is really high in fat or calories. There's also those little bits we sneak between meals that go unnoticed! Getting a good look at what you eat can help make better choices.
You might need to adjust your food plan too. Going to bed starving isn't good. Your body adjusts your metabolism to what it has. If it thinks you're starving it will shut down to preserve energy. Giving yourself little snacks between meals is actually a good thing as long as they're good choices. A piece of fruit is a good snack at night because the fiber is hard to digest giving your body something to work on so you don't feel empty. Portion size is important too. Eating too much of a healthy food is just as bad as eating a bad food. It's hard at first but once you stick with it for awhile your stomach shrinks down and full comes a lot easier.
Stick with it and eventually you'll see results. Everyone is different and you have to make adjustments for what works for you.

Have you had your thyroid checked? This can be a major issue for some, and it sounds like it could be for you.
Looser pants probably means that your weight is becoming muscle and that the fat is actually vanishing. With exercise, that can't help but happen. A pound of fat takes up more space than a pound of muscle. That added muscle will burn calories all day long and in the future you may see more loss than you are seeing now.
I agree. Don't go hungry. Just make sure it is healthy food and watch the calories. Your tastes will gradually change and you will love that celery or grapes.
Have you learned about the Blood Type Diet? For an A blood type (for example) wheat puts on weight terribly.

Thanks again for the input, it really helps to get a different perspective from people that know!
It's probably right that I am eating too big a portion when I have a meal - and I have been addressing that, hence feeling hungry so much at night...
I do have an underactive thyroid, but it is being treated so I sort of assumed it wouldn't affect anything, but now I am wondering if it is hindering my progress after all.
I love that I can do exercise at home when it suits me so I will not give in!
I read Paul's review of EA Sports and I bought it the other day. I will start on it next week when the kids are back at school and out of my way so I can concentrate on it. If that doesn't help then I don't know what will!!

I took levothyroxin for a while, but it did not seem to affect my weight loss efforts. However, twice I took thyroid glandular from the health food store, and I seemed to lose easier than usual. Don't take that as a recommendation, but it really seemed that way for me.
They say that looser clothing is a better sign of progress than the scale- so keep it up!

Hello, hope you are all getting on well .
I have just got my gold piggy, but still no weight loss to get excited about...but I am not gaining and I do have an overall loss orf a few pounds and I am certain my clothes are looser so, ah well, I'm happy with that - for now !
I got EA Sports Active last week but haven't been brave enough to start it up yet. I had a bit of a tummy bug last week and still feel a bit wobbly from it so I shall wait until I feel a bit stronger.
I was considering getting Cardio Workouts (My Fitness Coach) too, but I will see how I get on with EA Sports first...I am scared of it though! It does look a lot more serious then my friendly Wii Fit Plus!

I'm with you Moog, I haven't bought EA Sports yet, but I think I will be intimdated by it. I have to get it soon though, need to do the 30 day challenge before my mission trip to New Orleans in April.
I highly recommend EA Sports Active. You might find the new More Workouts more fun than the original Personal Trainer but you have to buy the accessory pack separately then. The original is more like a gym class while More Workouts has some fun activities.
The challenges start off with some of the easier things and work up as it goes alone. If you aren't used to exercise ( Wii Fit doesn't count because the cardio and strength factor is so low) then I'd really recommend starting on the easy setting. It gives you the option to skip any exercises you find to be to hard but that kind of defeats the purpose of working out.
Active is by far the best workout program I've found. I also have My Fitness Coach and Your Shape. I find them both to be kind of frantic in their movements and hard to follow.

Thanks Mokey; I am now on the lookout for EA Sports Active in my area. I recently thought I saw a package with both Sports Active and the More Workouts, but now that I'm ready I can't find it.

Hi again, hope everyone is still enjoying the Wii Fit!
I stepped up to EA Sports Active two weeks ago and have been doing the 30 Day challenge faithfully every day on the easy setting. I also do at least 30 mins on the Wii Fit Plus - the rhythm parade, kung fu, boxing and steps mainly.
Well, blow me down when I saw the dietitian today and got weighed on her [really mean] scales...She says I have lost 7 lb! Half a stone .
So from nothing to see for my effort, I can finally say I have a result! I am really pleased - it is hard work, but I am determined to stick with it and so far I am still really motivated too.
