The current posted record is 10.941 km which is 6.8 miles. It's a tie between me and Methusalem. My route involves a fair amount of pet-based trickery (but only so much, as I don't get a pet until beyond half the flags)
I take my good dog between Flag four and five and because he really loves me, he will stay with me until the finish line. ;)

Ah, you mean Flag Three and Flag Four. (The flag in the tunnel is to be done on the way down. If you do it on the way up, you have no landmark to help you find the correct line on the way down the tunnel. On the way up, there is a nice straight line fron the corner of the water to the mouth of the tunnel, but this line is impossible to follow accurately on the way down as you cannot see the corner of the water from the tunnel mouth.)

Note to PamEast: obsessing about this stuff is how I got through Expert in under seven miles, or under 900 metres on the beginner level: the record stands at 853 metres, just over half a mile.

Wow! Thanks everyone for the great tips! My first full run through on the expert course took over 10 miles (16km). Obviously I have a long way to go to get that down to something reasonable!

Um, yes, especially as thanks to Methusalem not telling me about the pet up by the castle bridge, I was able to trim almost 240 metres off my best distance, so the target is now 10.702 km, 6.65 miles.  :o 8-)
