I think it would be very cool if there was a true free run. It could be done, *without* using the Wii Board! I can think of 2 methods:
(1) There could be some sort of rig with the Wiimote and the nunchuck - the nunchuck used to steer and the Wii mote used to detect movement.
(2) There could be an editor so that you could set up a route beforehand. You could set the start, set the path, and the software would calculate things so that there were no problems. Then all you would have to do is follow it. This would only require use of the Wiimote.

I don't know why it can't be just like cycling, pace is set by the balance board and steering with the remote. The movement for cycling is not all that different? They should add a free run.

Well, I don't think they want you jogging on the board as it might damage it. Some people really pound the ground when they jog.

To get a high burn rate for jogging you really have to run and the board just wouldn't take it. I'm already wondering how long my board is going to last. There has to be some limit to how much use it will take before the sensors give out.

"Stretching measuring stripes" or other translated "resistance strain gauge" (using inside the board sensors) age and get inaccurately, but practically never get broken. Though, after great stress the sensor can get out of the range of the simple self calibrating (tare weight (cover) setting to zero at start).

When I do the cycling, I consider that jogging (even though it may NOT be to a purist), subsequently I find it annoying that I can't do the "real" running on the board. I find that the way I have to hold/manipulate the wiimote to maintain a half-way decent pace is annoying. I really wish I could do the running on the board...
