I wish all these software packages weren't so expensive. Local libraries carry dvds and vhs tapes. I wish they would have some of these packages so we could try out and see if we want or not. Often I buy something but am disappointed with the results.

The Vienna public library (only in the central office) have some of the Wii games. You can lend them for two weeks and have to pay 1€ for each. Wow, just looked at the library homepage: The list include 55 Wii games today.

Another good reason to go to Vienna

The library idea is a good idea actually, I know for a fact that here in Ohio they don't have anything like that available at the library. Although the games are really expensive, I feel that the benefit I get from them justifies the expense.
I have been doing the Your Shape program for 5 days now, and I feel amazing compared to how i used to feel. I weighed myself today, and I lost another 1.7lbs. taking me down to 147lbs. That's a total of 18.0lbs. lost since December 16th, I am taking it slow but I am super happy with the results! Mom gained back about 3 lbs., taking her back up to 198 and she is all upset about it. Valentine's Day messed her up really bad, my dad got her a bunch of cupcakes and brownies and she went on a binge. I tried to keep her away from that stuff, but she was just drawn in by it I guess.
This week for work I cooked up a nice little breakfast for each day, here is what it consisted of.
1/2 cup of Southwest style Egg Beaters (30 calories) 2 turkey sausage links (130 calories total) 1 whole wheat flat bread pocket toasted w/ no butter (100 calories)
260 Calories total for my dinner, I think that's good what do you guys think?
Excellent, good protein, you might want to add a bit of fruit to it just because. I try to stick to 200 to 300 for breakfast, 300 for lunch then a bit bigger supper with no more than 100 calorie snacks between. Getting lots of fiber in helps keep things moving!

Alright huge milestone for me right here, I got on the Wii today and I lost another 2.0lbs taking me down to 145lbs.! That is a total of 20lbs. now, the Your Shape program is awesome and it has made me lose 6 lbs. last week eating the same things I have been eating. I bought the Just Dance program today and what a riot that is, It made me sweat more than the Your Shape does. If you can manage not to have a stroke after 3 songs, then you can probably burn some serious calories on that program. It was $39.99 at Wal-Mart which is kind of steep, but it has over 30 popular songs and is a ton of fun. Up to 4 people can play at one time if you have the room, me and mom played for half an hour today and were whipped when it came to an end. She lost 0.2 lbs. today, but she is still mad that she back peddled a little bit. Nothing in my sights for my next game yet, I will have to wait for a new one to come out.

Hi trplxl2 ,
Thanks for sharing your journey with us! I have been reading your posts and am almost a "clone" of your mom. (ie age 57, height 5'3", weight about the same).
Actually, I have been fighting to catch up to and keep up with your mom's weight loss. Today I passed her...
I guess there is no virtue in competing with someone who doesn't know there is a race. So I figured I'd spill the beans.
I really relate to the things you shared about your mom, and I have struggled with many of the same things.
Trying to get fit after fifty is a "whole nother thing"...
Thanks again for sharing!
cd1
PS: I use Wii Fit, EA Sports, and DDR too

Wow that's sweet cd1, I will tell my mom and maybe she will get competitve along as well. She gave up trying to compete with me, after all I am 30 years younger than her. I will show her this post so she doesn't think I am messing with her, I do know that it would kill her if she went back over 200lbs but so far she is holding steady at 197lbs.
Well I did half an hour on the Just Dance program yesterday and the same today, and It is definately a fast paced workout that makes you sweat. My mom loves to dance to the who let the dogs out video, and my favorite song on there is cotton eyed Joe which is kind of swing country dancing. I weighed myself today and I dropped another 0.7lbs. so I am right at 145.0 now, I am just glad that I got off of that damn stalling point.
While looking at the sales ads in the newspaper today, I saw that target now has Your Shape for $39.99 when I payed $69.99 just two weeks ago. And they also have Just Dance for $29.99, and I just payed $39.99 at Wal-Mart yesterday dangit! I hate when that happens to me, just letting you guys now as a little heads up.
Made my lunch for the week today, tried something different this time.
3 Jennie-O turkey dogs (70 calories each) Whole wheat flat bread bun (100 calories) 1/2 cup blueberries + 1/2 cup strawberries (not sure about calories but not that much......I think?) 2 tbs. of fat free cool whip (20 calories) 3/4 cup of mini carrot sticks (35 calories) 2 tbs. of Knorr's vegetable dip mix made with fat free sour cream (60 calories mixed for 2 tbs.)
For an afternoon snack I also made sugar free jello (5 calories 1/2 cup) I made raspberrie jello with fresh blueberries in it I also made strawberry banana jello with fresh strawberries and bananas in it.

Hey Everybody, I'm back. Glad to hear about everyone's progress. I somehow lost .7 lbs while on vacation where I didn't exercise a lot (but did do "Aquacise" in the ocean one day, it was a good workout and the largest aerobics class I ever saw, with kids from like age 4 to very senior citizens). The hard part was keeping your footing on the shifting sand. Unfortunately, later that night I fell flat on my face (nose first) and though I didn't break my nose I wasn't in the best shape for exercising. Somewhere on this forum and also on the Nutrition Facts forum someone mentioned making sure to eat your fruit first. I'm not a big fruit person, but in the Dominican Republic they had lots of fresh fruit on the buffet for every meal, so I tried that little tidbit and it worked. I also tried some fruits I hadn't tried before and now hope to find them stateside at the same quality (hard in the winter). Today, I lost another 2 lbs., probably adusting to flying and being back home. I am VERY proud of myself that I didn't pig out with so much food so readily available. What helped with that is the desserts weren't so hot, and what they did have was in much smaller portions than a US restraunts serve.
The library thing is a good idea, and you might suggest your library think about adding games.
The roses I got (2 days before Valentine's Day -- at work) are still alive and beautiful (despite me being gone for a week and not changing the water). My husband knew better than to get me candy. For our anniversary I will request more WiiFit stuff. Talk to your father about being more supportive of your mother's weight loss goals.

Well it's been a coupe of days since I was last on, and not much has changed really. Mom is still fluctuating back and forth, but I busted her yesterday because I caught her at midnight eating Bryer's chocolate ice cream and chocolate syrup. I made her feel so guilty she went and threw it out, but by that time she had already eaten half of it.
On monday I was still at 145lbs, and then tuesday mysteriously I went up to 147.3lbs. I was so upset because I didn't eat or drink anything unhealthy, so I kept my chin up and kept working hard at it. On wednesday I weighed myself again and to my surprise I lose 2.2lbs., and then I just weighed myself today (friday) and I lost another 0.7lbs. taking me down to 144lbs.!! I noticed that It is getting harder and harder to lose the weight now, but I'm not complaining because it just makes me try that much harder.
Today is going to be a test of wills for me, we have a level 3 snow warning here in ohio and only emergency vehicles are allowed out. So I'm stuck at home with a day off work, and temptation all around me LOL! I had a cup of blueberries and some bran cereal for breakfast, and for lunch I am going to have turkey hot dogs and some veggies to go with it. mtbone sounds like you had too many fruity drinks LOL! I have tried the liquid diet before too, and even though it's mixed with fruit it is not good for you. That was nice that you got flowers instead of candy for valentine's day, and I will talk to my dad some more about how he pressures my mom into eating. I think that he doesn't want to be the only fat one in the house now that we're getting all healthy, he is 5'11" and weighs about 230lbs. and he loves his food. I am secretly substituting his stuff over time, like skim milk instead of 4% and so on. Until next time!
