As expected, if you've been watching the graphs, the Wii has just nudged through its 40 millionth unit sold since launch, almost as much as the others combined.

Of course, this won't stop so-called "hard-core" gamers from complaining that the Wii isn't a real games console or somehow doesn't count because it is marketed and sold to "non-gamers". This of course still remains a load of old nonsense put forward by people who take the whole video games industry just a little too seriously, and have forgotten that it is supposed to be about having fun.

So I shall be toasting Nintendo's storming return to form, and looking back on all those who declared that it would be a niche product, yes I'm looking at you Sony
