Hi!

I have started to get problems with my Wii Remote. I know I must stand right in front of the TV, so the thing I placed on top of TV can recognize the Wii Remote. I cannot be to close to the TV, because then the hand isn't working that well. I cannot be too far away either, wich is not a problem. It cannot be stuff in the way either.

The Wii Remote hand started to work badly, so I changed batterys from the ones I got when I purchased it to new rechargable batteries. After a few days or so, the Wii told me to change batterys in the Wii remote. I changed to new rechargable batteries. But the Wii Remote will not always work. What's wrong with it? Any ideas?

Sounds as if the Wiimote has problems. The best thing to do would be to buy another one. I have had problems with one where the nunchuck wouldn't work on it. The nunchuck itself worked just fine when I connected it to another Wiimote, so the problem lay with the Wiimote itself. They probably wear out.

Actually, you have to stand in front of the TV so the Wii Remote can recognise the Sensor Bar - the Sensor Bar is just a couple of infra-red LEDs that the remote looks for. The stuff about distance and stuff in the way is normal - too close and the LEDs on the Sensor Bar are too far apart for the remote to see them both, and too far away and it can't see them because the distance makes them harder to see.

As for the batteries: If you use the remote a lot, it will eat through the charge on the batteries pretty quickly. Add the fact that NiCad and NiMH rechargeables (the common types in AA format) don't store as much energy as alkalines, and you are looking at significantly short time-between-charges for your rechargeables. Best bet is to bite the bullet and switch to alkalines, or to switch to one of those inductive charging solutions where you drop the remote face-up on a charging station when you are not using it, and the battery gets charged by that so it will in effect always be freshly charged overnight.

I know that about the Sensor Bar. I also know I must put away things on the sofa table when I sit in the sofa and use the Wii Remote. I use Wii Fit Plus between half an hour and one hour a day. I also have Titanic Mystery (wich I have maked in a week or so), Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, but I think I use Wii at most 1,5 hours a day. If I buy a Wii Remote Stand for two Wii Remotes I know I can charge one Wii Remote too (I only have one). I've heard the Wii Remote can be charged in 2 hours, and it can then be used in 25 hours. So, I don't have to recharge it every night. Maybe once every week, at the most. But if I can charge the Wii Remote every day without shorten the battery's life, why not.

When the Wii Remote isn't working, it have been like the hand isn't working but I still can use the arrows and the buttons. I just cannot move the hand where I want to. But after awhile it works fine again. On Tuesday this week when I was looking at the Wiiware I had problems with the Wii Remote. The Wii Remote didn't work at all, but after awhile it worked again for a short while, then it stopped to work again.

I'm going to throw out a couple of ideas. They may fall into the "obvious" category, but bear with me.

* Did you tell the Wii that the sensor bar is on top of the TV? It's buried in the settings somewhere. If you get it wrong, you will have problems.
* Is the infra-red panel on the front ("cross") end of the remote clean and dry? I've had problems where condensation from my sweaty hand (doing the cycling game in "how far can I go" mode) made the remote "blind" until I wiped it off.

Hi!

The sensor bar is on top of TV.
When I tried today, the Wii Remote didn't work at all, so i changed back to the original batterys and then it worked just fine.
The rechargable batteries is on 2450 mAh and they are new. I have four of them. I have recharged them just once, when I buyed them. My husband says it should be more than enough. He hasn't heard about Wii and the Balance Board at all, until I started to talk about it and buyed it. I know there is rechargable batteries from around 700 mAh and up, so I guess 2450 mAh is much. And I believed my husband wich have used rechargable batteries in many years for different kind of electronic things.

I have ordered the Wii Fit Studio kit, I am getting it later today. There is a battery kit for the Balance Board included, so I can recharge the Balance Board while playing. But the Balance Board batteries could reach for 60 hours or so, wich is around 2 months of use for me. So, that is not too important. I buyed the Wii Fit Studio kit for the silicon layer, the yoga mat and the suitcase for the Balance Board. Two pair of socks is also included.

I have seen the Wii Remote stand where I can recharge my Wii Remote, and I think I must buy it some day. I thought the rechargable batteries was the same, but maybe not.

Hi again!

I think of buying Captain Gadget Wii Charger Dock, or put it on the Wish List for Christmas.

So the problem is definitely with the rechargeable batteries then. I never use that type of battery, which is why I have so few problems with the Wiimote.

Hi!

When I buyed the package for Wii Balance Board with yoga mat, socks, suitcase and silicon skin, I got a pack of rechargable batteries too. I putted the battery pack in the Wii Balance Board and charged them with the USB cable connected for the Wii Console for 3 hours. The Wii Console was on but the TV was off. The papers wich followed in the package told me the battery pack should be recharged in 3 hours.

Then I started the Wii Fit Plus today it told me to change the batteries in the Balance Board immediatly. I have heard you could recharge the battery pack while playing, so I tried to connect the Balance Board to the Wii Console and play. The Balance Board shut down now and then. I tried to change to the rechargable batteries I've buyed before, but they seemed not to work. Probably because I have used them in the Wii Remote before, and it looks like they need a recharge. I have just used them a few hours, so I am surprised.

I buyed regular alcaline batteries from the food store this evening, and then it worked well.

I am now trying to recharge the battery pack in my computer. I hope it work to load them that way. I am totally lost when it comes to technical stuff wich don't work (friends and neighbours would not agree, but they can less than me).

I would forget the rechargeable batteries. The alkaline type work well so stick with them. If the technology is flaky, then it just isn't worth it.
