I've been spending time going round and round the island on Free Ride. I do this every morning, because the weird little primitive thing in the back of my brain has worked out how to connect eyes, hands, and feet so that the rest of my head can wander off into flights of fantasy, while my Mii only occasionally crashes into walls. Anyway, it's still not the most interesting thing, so I occasionally set myself little challenges so I can do something different.

So far:
* Ride on all the roads. That is, the black road, each and every road and paved area in town, the dirt tracks, the various tunnels and bridges, the ramp to the hotel and the assorted paved areas around the hotel, the path up to the Sand Pit (dry lake bed), the Steel Ramp, the rocky path by the road between the Grand Tunnel and the Temple Ruins, the rocky path up to the Temple Ruins, the temple itself, including the steps, the pit with the door, etc.
* Ride on every patch of grass. That is, every grass-covered surface that you can get the bike onto, including the top of Small Rock half-way down the beach. Two areas of grass that are connected by a rideable-on strip are considered one area, so the two balloons by the Big Oval Hole (inlet) are on the same piece of grass.
* Visit interesting places. That is, bridges, tunnels, arches, the village, Fountain Square, the entrance to the bowling alley, the piece of black road that runs from the lighthouse along past the wind farm, the Sand Pit, the Steel Ramp, the Starting Circle, the lighthouse, the wind farm, the hotel entrance, the tennis courts, the swimming pool, Camel Rock, Small Rock, End Rock, the Temple Ruins including the top of the temple and the pit with the door, Dog Rock and the flat raised area next to it, Hump Rock, the castle, the two sets of standing stones, the plugged lava hole, etc. Visit each place once.
* Visit trees. That is, go by each isolated tree and each stand of trees. Try to do more than just skim a corner of a stand of trees.

I think the ride-on-roads challenge cannot be done in a single session. 30 minutes just isn't enough time, since the challenge involves hitting every street in town. The ride-on-grass challenge is feasible, partly because it does not require you to touch the beach. The interesting-places challenge requires some care in choosing a start and endpoint. I haven't actually tried the visit-trees challenge yet.

Anyway, have a go, and kudos to the first person to get under 30 minutes for the roads and places challenges!

Interesting, but I have no time for this now.
A new sand box for my grandson has to be built and some other work in the garden.
Also I really enjoy to cycling in real life with my woman in a huge park nearby. :D
The scanning of the old slides and negatives (a lot of it) started in November isn't ready either, but now will delayed for bad weather periods.

Cynique, have you tried riding over every single ramp? I tried that once just to see if you get some kind of prize (like we got the new bike for covering the whole island). No prize, but of course, I'm not sure I got all the ramps. :? :)

Anyone tried to catch a sailboat? Looks like they are all in deep water.

How about rooftops. Notice the mii on the higher roof as you jump across the red ramp?

Looks like Methusalem and jvv have the right outlook. I'll have to scale back wiing in the house, and get out and do some home improvement. If I can make a 30 min. morn, 30 min. after work session, I should keep making progress.

Methusalem, what is your real-world bike? How about everyone else? Do you have bikes and/or other exercise equipment?

I've tried countless times to catch one. They always remain just out of reach, no matter what I do, just like a rainbow. Still, it's good exercise.

2900 klicks is very impressive. Any idea what METs that would add up to? Hope there haven't been any death plummets involved. :D

Back to cynique's original challenge, I am going to try to take it on for warm up runs, and keep adding rock riding and death plummet perfecting to the mix.

Let us not forget the weird jump from the dead end tunnel, and jumping up on various rock walls or ledges.

Several rocky drop offs are next to a cliff face. I have tried pushing the front tire up against the cliff while slowly sliding down the slope. This seems to delay the plummet, but no access to anyplace new. I tried this at the upper end of the tunnel above the castle.

I have also tried to jump up on the ledge on the rock plug at the upper green, to see if the ledge could be ridden.

Hopefully, if anyone finds another unusual 'easter egg', they will catch it on video and show it off.

Since it is gardening and outside work time, this will be on the back burner. But then there are lots of rainy days out here. :)

Hello again... I have just completed the "touch all ramps" challenge, using a horrible route, and it took 9.6 km or so, say about 6 miles, in just over 20 minutes. I wasn't going flat ouit or anything, so there is room to improve the time, and the distance as well. My conclusion is that the place to start is the lighthouse, but I'll let you all work out the rest of it for yourselves...

Note: "all ramps" includes the steep red ones, the shallow double-sided blue ones, the fragmentary half-ramp that helps you cross from one of the rooves to another, and all seven launcher ramps.
