Hi everyone
I have managed to track down the Wii Fit Plus board which appears to be out of stock almost everywhere! I'm pleased to report however that I managed to purchase one on Wednesday from toysrus online which will be delivered tomorrow.
Im 26 years old, and I admit that I am overweight. I must be around eighteen stone and thats mainly down to junk food, beer and lack of exercise. But as from tomorrow I will be cutting down on everything, junk food and alcohol in particular.
I am vowing to use the Wii Fit board five days a week for around 40 minutes per day, however I am not sure what I should be doing on it in-order to lose weight most efficiently. Obviously it will take weeks to ease myself into a routine and the exercising itself.
As a newbie, I'm hoping some of you could suggest a workout for me. The step aerobics looks very appealing from a starting perspective, but to be honest I am not really sure what I should be doing on it.
Any help or advice you could offer me would be very welcome indeed.

Congratulations on finding one! It's odd, though, there seem to be plenty of the boards here in France the last time I looked.
The best types of exercise for losing weight are the aerobic exercises, particularly the jogging and step dancing.
Some people find the jogging to be boring. If that turns out to be the case for you, then the cycling games might well be the answer. Although they have a lower MET than jogging, they are addictive, as you will be able to tell by looking at the Hints, Tips, Cheats and Easter Eggs section of this board.
As well, the golf games have a reasonable MET of 3. If you like pattern matching games, Rhythm Parade can form part of a good work out.
The really important thing is to exercise. Think of it this way: whatever you do for exercise, when you are exercising, you are not eating.
Another way, outside Wii Fit Plus, to put a bit more exercise into your life is to stand whenever possible. This works if you have a sedentary lifestyle, one where you mainly sit around. Sitting has a MET of 1. Standing has a MET of 2. So just by standing, you double your MET, that is, you are using twice the energy you would than if you had been sitting. MET, by the way, stands for Metabolic Equivalent of Task and is the measure of the intensity of an aerobic exercise.
Don't try to do too much at once. As soon as you cut down on the junk food and beer, the hunger pains will start and might be a bit of a distraction. You might want to explore good snacks such as fruit. I snack on grapes these days along with the occasional small tin of peas and carrots. I know peas and carrots might seem like an odd snack, but after one weans oneself off of sweets, savory snacks are much more attractive.
By the way, I find I can lose much more weight by making sure I have a good breakfast in the morning. When I was eating a light breakfast, I found that I became hungry after only a few hours. With a good breakfast in me, if I eat at say 8 am, I can wait until 4 pm to eat again. I simply don't feel hungry until then. And after standing on my feet for several hours, too. This might work for you as well. It might be worth a try, anyway.
Anyway, again, congratulations. Let us know how you get on.

Welcome to the forum! I don't know where you live, but if you are in colder weather areas, you might need vitamin D3 to help with moods and to keep your appetite down. It works wonders! You can have your levels checked by your doctor if you wish. B vitamins also help with metabolism.
I agree with la_joggeuse about exercise. The only other thoughts I had were that you might want to start with milder exercise than jogging if you have been pretty sedentary. At your age it might not be a problem, though. Also, try out various games on the WiiFit (hopefully you ordered the Plus version? Or you won't get some of the best games) to find out what you enjoy the most. That will help you to keep motivated.
Don't expect to jump right into exercise when you fire up your Fit for the first time. You will want to make a Mii (if you don't already have a Wii for other games) and then you will be introduced to a talking balance board who will put you through various things to get you set up for the future. There is a body test and advice. It is all fairly enjoyable, and later when you feel like you've had enough of that for a while, you can skip it or do a simple (short) body test.
The cheats page on the forum is probably not the first place you want to read if you want to learn about Wuhu Island on your own, riding your bike or jogging. You might want to advance through the levels to find flags and balloons on your own first. Or you can learn it all today on the forum.
Have fun!

Hi there, welcome aboard Hopefully you'll find Wiifit adictive like the rest of us. It could be any of the activities and nothing will be a waste of time as long as you're moving your body more than you would normally be.
Don't try to cut out everything at once, slowly, slowly until you get used to it. If you end up feeling like you're depriving yourself you will start to resent the whole 'getting fit thing'.
In addition to Wiifit the thing I have found very motivating for keeping me moving is a pedometer. It is a constant reminder of how much you are moving. The steps become an irritant to you after a little while and you constatly want to better the previous day's total.
Finally, give yourself rewards when you reach your targets. Targets may be anything from weight lost, less beer drunk, to total calories expended etc. Make them treats that you wouldn't have got yourself normally because you felt fat and frumpy eg new clothes (well, hey I'm a girl!).
And finally, finally - don't go just on the amount of wieght you lose in terms of pounds, measure yourself around your problem areas or choose an item of clothing that's a bit tight now that you would like to get into. Inches (cms) can tell you a lot about your progress, maybe even more than weight.
Most importantly have a blast doing it. Find what suits you and you feel happy doing. If you have a bad day, or week, don't punish yourself, just get back into as soon as. More than anything - and I'm going to sound so cheesy now but I don't care - Love yourself big time.
Loads of luck and love, tell us all about it, even if your having a pants time.

This is why I love this forum so much, GREAT Advice everyone. As someone that was sedentary for a long time I actually didn't find the jogging too hard. I had to work up to a free run and can just barely do 20 minutes of it; but it lets me watch TV while I'm doing it and it's less aggravating than the free step. When I try the free step it seems slower than it should be and the trainer is always telling me to keep up with her when it feels like she's not going fast enough. Admittedly though I'm have trouble coordinating the steps in the regular step, it's hard to get perfects when I think I am in time. However from this forum I have learned that the board is a little finicky when it comes to step. The most fun game (for me) on WittFit Plus is the snowball fight.

Welcome! I find that I use the most calories with the boxing. If I'm limited for time, I usually do that at least twice along with the step aerobics, jogging, and rhythm parade, then cycling.
