I love my Wii Fit +. Make no mistake about that! I HATE, HATE, HATE that it makes you weight yourself every day or it won't stamp the calendar. Then, if you don't do the body test (AKA: getting weighed) every single day it yells at you! I mean, you can do a 3 hour workout and it won't even stamp the calendar!?
I have been on MANY diet and fitness plans in my 35 (almost 36) years of age. I have had gym memberships (even Curves!), I have tried all the plans that you can get in book form (South Beach, Atkins, Skinny B*tch, Perfect Body Diet, etc...) and the one thing that I have learned from almost ALL of these sources is NOT to weigh yourself every day! The body fluxuates .5 - 2.5 lbs. within the day, and sometimes - even if you weigh in at the same time every morning it will flux. If your body retained water overnight you can even weigh more in the morning than you do at night! It is just extremely detrimental to my motivation and sense of well being when I get up in the morning for weigh in - after working my buns off all week, doing Yoga, strength training and aerobics, eating nothing but salads and grapefruit and I see the number on the scale go UP instead of down. It makes me want to throw things (remember to wear your wrist strap!!!!)!!!!! It makes me want to quit. I think that it is one of the major flaws of this fitness system. Especially seeing as it is designed to get the couch potatoes (myself included), who are usually going to be a little heavier than others, up off the couch and moving. These people need motivation, not excuses to stop.
If you weigh yourself every week or every other week you can see your results more clearly. If you eat right and exercise, there is no way that you are going to gain fat (unless there is something physically wrong with you). Even if it is a slow decline, weighing in once a week is far better for showing your long term results. It is a lot more comforting to get on the scale and see even a half a pound drop off in a weeks time, than it is to get on the thing every morning and have to see the daily flux of your bodily fluids. It can make it seem like you are never going to loose any weight!
Am I the only one with this gripe? I kind of searched for a similar topic but could only find people who were being weighed incorrectly by their boards.
You don't have to weigh yourself everyday. The stamp is really no big deal and doesn't count for anything other than having some stamps on a calendar. I weigh in once a week and that's it. Daily is too much and as you say can actually be discouraging. Your piggy keeps track of your hours and your chart will plot your progress. Just ignore the Wii board having his little pout because you didn't weigh in everyday.

I agree - especially since during the week I weigh myself after I get home from work....... On the weekends I do my test before I have any breakfast, coffee, etc - so I have decided that I will only gauge my weight loss progress based on my Saturday morning weigh-ins, and not beat myself up during the week.

Indeed, you don't have to weigh in every day.
Personally I do, but I always use the "Simple Test" which doesn't nag you or anything, it just weighs you and tells you your balance %.
I actually do weigh myself every day, but I don't worry about the day to day fluctuations. What's important is the overall trend. That's why I built Graphomatic. In the graph below the yellow line is my actual weight on each day, while the red line is a rolling average* which shows the trend, which is much more important. You can see how the actual weight jumps around all over the place. That's totally natural. What's important is the trend line.
* For the maths nerds - to be specific it's actually an exponentially weighted rolling average.

Here is some advice that my husband gave me. He lost 40 pounds.
DO NOT WEIGH YOURSELF EVERYDAY!
Don't worry about the stamps.
Your weight can fluctuate so much during the day. Also, some folks don't work out at the same time everyday and weighing yourself at different times will give you crazy results.
My advice, if you do weigh yourself everyday then do it, but weigh yourself on a scale once a week as well.

Thanks for all the replies! I have resolved to weighing myself onve a week as I have always done in the past! I guess it is pretty silly to get hung up on some stamps on a calendar and to worry about getting yelled at by a virtual balance board. LOL Silly me!
