I am having some trouble with the Snowball Fight in WiiFit+. A couple of times now, my brandnew Motion Plus Controller, with fresh batteries, freezes up on the lower part of the screen and I can't throw snowballs. What am I doing wrong or how do I unstick it?

I've never seen this before, I must admit. I haven't played the snowball fight with the new Motion Plus Controller, though. Have you tried pressing the 'Home' key on the controller when it freezes up?

Is it the all-in-one controller (with "Wii Motion Plus INSIDE" near the strap end)? Are they the batteries that came with the controller? These have been on a shelf somewhere for some unknown amount of time, and aren't usually all that good anyway.

As always with Wii Remote controller problems, start by changing the batteries. Rechargeables are a particular problem because they operate at a slightly lower voltage than alkaline batteries, so if the device is voltage sensitive (as all Wii controllers are), you start with a couple of strikes against you. If you are using rechargeables, try a pair of brand-name alkalines.

If you still have the same problem, and you have another controller, and it does not have the problem, you may have to return it to where you bought it. That said, there is one last thing to try: the controllers will work, sort-of, without being synced to the Wii. If the new controller won't turn the Wii on/off, but will let you play games, go back to the Wii manual for instructions on how to sync the controller - basically you open the memory card slot cover on the Wii, and press the red button, and then press the little round button on the controller (inside the battery compartment). The controller will bleep and then all should be well.

(The process is a bit like what you have to do with Bluetooth devices and your mobile phone. Well, actually, it's exactly like that, because the Wii -> Wiimote link is Bluetooth.)
