Brain injury is a significant issue for many soldiers because it can be hard to spot, and even harder to treat, which means that it can go undiagnosed for a long tim. It is one of the terrible truths about war that for every soldier who is killed, many more will suffer some form of significant injury, so it's good to see people researching better ways to help them.
The article is a little vague on the level of improvement, but after five sessions of 30 minutes the soldier was apparently showing significant improvement in balance.
The concentration was on using Wii Fit Yoga, balance, and strength training games and exercises to help improve the soldier's balance and control.
A choice quote about using Wii Fit for this sort of thing:
Quote:
Any time you can change rehabilitation processes and make them more interesting for the patient is great, especially with brain injuries, since neurological rehabilitation is a longer process - Laurie Hildebrand
For many forms of rehabilitation it is really a case of "slow and steady", so anything that can make it more interesting is a good thing.
