I picked up a copy last weekend and have been having a little look around. First impressions are gooood. I'm really liking the co-ordination exercises within the Training plus option - it just takes the balance games a little further and makes them more interesting and dare I say it harder!!!

All of the games are also 'unlocked' so for us therapists it means that we have access to all the balance activities without having to work through all the levels to unlock them, as with Wii Fit. You still have to unlock the advanced levels, but thats easily done when you are playing the basic level of the same game.

Its been out less that a week in the UK and I wonder whether therapists will be able to purchase a copy on top of the previous version - my advice is to get hold of a copy, if only for the unlocked games....

Reasonably priced, good range of added activities that have the potential to be used with therapy across the board (although still at the middle to high range of abilities). I think I am still slightly concerned that the Department of Health have let it have the Change for Life logo on it, but Nintendo have at least made good attempts to interpret the activities by way of METs [http://www.brianmac.co.uk/mets.htm] and estimated calories burned, which is a great start for people wanting/needing better understanding of exercise and energy expenditure :)

I will be organising a breakdown of the additional games found within Wii Fit Plus in the near future and posting them on the WiiHabilitation website in due course for those interested.

Thanks

I've just been bought wii fit plus for my birthday. I had no experience of the original wii fit though, other than recommendations by friends.

I can imagine a lot of the exercises must be extremely useful in rehab and therapy. I'd be interested in your breakdown of the exercises if you could give me a link to the WiiHabilitation website ?
I am not personally using for therapy or rehabilitation but I'd be interested to read anyway. :)

Wow, mets are real?

I personally don't like the 'goal' of food feature - I think it's counter productive to work off a block of chockie, because then it puts in your mind the block of chockie...

Alexa, you can find the WiiHabilitation site at http://wiihabilitation.co.uk/ - it's got a lot of research into using the Wii. :)

Heh, that was my reaction :) I'm glad to hear they are not like the Wii Fit Age, which is all just a bit of pseudoscience as far as I can work out. My experience using a pulse meter suggests that the calorie estimates are pretty accurate (or at least compare well to the numbers given by the pulse meter).

I had the same reaction when it told me I'd burnt of enough calories for a croissant, I immediately wanted one :)

However I do think it's a great idea. It puts the health benefits of exercise into perspective. I think too many people believe that doing more exercise is enough to help them lose weight, but most people are not aware just how much you have to do to make up for bad eating habits.

Yes had this for Christmas like most folk did.

Absolutely love it, being able to make your own training routines makes training even better.

The old wii-fit I found it quite frustrating when you have to click through all the menus after each session.

With the routines you can go smoothly through each exercise!

I have lost 1stone 3lbs since January 12th 2010.

Check out my blog. Its poorly written because it was just away of me keeping a personal diary, but if it helps other folk get motivated then thats great as well.
