If you jumping down from the blue roof it will follow you, but not if you jump or fall from the orange roof.
Practice will help. By taking the pictures I fall at least five times down and had to go up again.
If you on a crooked roof side you can get back up to the middle by not heading too strongly.

I spent a whole night jumping on those roofs and it is hard. I can't see what the advantage is though as you don't get any closer to balloons or shorten th route and the odds are you won't make it
