When the Wii had been out for a while, and had been thumping the PS3 and XBox in the sales charts, many commentators declared that it was a fad. They said the Wii would lose momentum and its slow burning competitors would overtake, "just wait until the games start coming" they said. Just wait.
You can see this uptick on the latest sales graph at VGChartz. That's sales per month for the last year. There are a couple of things to note here:
* Sales for this period are higher than they were for the same time last year. * The Wii is still selling more than the others combined. * If this is the pre-christmas uptick, then it has started earlier than last year. This is probably a reaction to the shortages last year. So we probably won't see the same sharp spike that we saw last year.
This is occurring at a time of economic uncertainty, yet the Wii is no longer significantly cheaper than the PS3 or XBox360, in fact it is more expensive than the cheapest XBox.
If the Wii is just a fad, then it is one seriously long running one.
