What is this?
This is an exercise for the thighs and the back.
Benefits
Rowing Squat:
- Helps to tone your thigh muscles.
- Helps to tone your back muscles.
- Helps you to maintain a correct posture.
- Makes an excellent warm-up exercise.
Equipment required
This exercise requires:
- The Wii Balance Board
MET
Rowing Squat has a MET of 3.5, meaning that it is a moderate intensity activity.
Levels and time
There are two levels of Rowing Squat, each requiring a different number of repetitions and each taking a different amount of time:
- 15 times: takes 1 minute.
- 30 times: takes 2 minutes.
How to do it
- Stand on the Wii Balance Board with your feet apart.
- Extend both arms in front of you.
- Form your hands into fists.
- Bend your knees at an angle of approximately 120 degrees.
- As you bend your knees, draw your arms back, bending your elbow as if you are rowing.
- Concentrate on your balance so that the red dot on the screen goes into the blue zone when you bend your knees.
- Straighten your knees and arms, returning to the starting position.
- Repeat for as many repetitions as the level requires.
Scoring
You are awarded points based on how well you kept the red dot within the blue zone.
Problems
- If you are having trouble getting the red dot into the blue zone, you need to bend your knees more.
- Do not move too quickly when doing this exercise as you might strain your muscles. Keep your movements fluid and gentle.
- Make sure that your feet are pointing forward so that your legs are aligned properly.
