What is this?
This is an exercise for the chest, hips and arms.
Benefits
Single Leg Extension:
- Tones the muscles of the chest.
- Tones the hips.
- Tones the triceps.
- Improves coordination.
Equipment required
This exercise requires:
- The Wii Balance Board
MET
Single Leg Extension has a MET of 3, meaning that it is a moderate intensity activity.
Levels and time
There are two levels of Single Leg Extension, each requiring a different number of repetitions and each taking a different amount of time:
- 6 times per leg: takes 1 minute.
- 10 times per leg: takes 2 minutes.
How to do it
- Stand on the Wii Balance Board with your legs apart and your arms at your sides.
- At the same time, bend the left knee and raise your left leg in front of you so that you are standing on your right leg. Bend your right elbow and bring your right arm in front of you so that it is pointing upwards. Straighten your left arm behind you.
- Leaning forward a bit, push back with your left leg so that the leg straightens behind you and at the same time, bring your left arm forward and up, keeping it straight, and straighten your right arm as you bring it down behind you.
- Straightening yourself, bend your left knee and bring your left leg in front of you. Bend your right elbow and bring your right arm in front of you so that it is pointing upwards. Your left arm should be straight and behind you.
- Concentrate on keeping the red dot in the yellow zone.
- Do this as many times as the level requires.
- Switch to the other side.
Scoring
You are awarded points for how well you kept the red dot in the yellow zone, for both the left and the right legs.
Problems
- If you are having problems keeping your balance, then hold on to a chair.
- Keeping your back straight and your shoulders pulled back will make it easier to keep yourself stable.
- Keep your movements fluid and steady, especially during the pushing back motion.
