Object of the game

Your Mii has taken up slalom snowboarding. Help him to make the best time getting through all the gates. You wouldn't want him to hang his head in shame, would you?

Equipment required

This game requires:

  • The Wii Balance Board

MET

Snowboard Slalom has a MET of 2, meaning that it is a light intensity activity.

Time

There is no set time for this game. It takes as long as it takes you to get your Mii to the bottom of the hill.

Levels

There are two levels of Snowboard Slalom.

The difference between the levels is the number of gates and how close they are together:

Beginner

  • There are 22 gates.
  • They are not as close together as in the Advanced level.

Advanced

  • There are 34 gates.
  • The gates tend to be closer together than on the Beginner level.

How to play the game

To get your Mii through the gates while he goes downhill, you need to know:

  • How to place the board.
  • How to control your speed.
  • How to steer.
  • How to use the gates.

How to place the board

This is a snowboarding game, so you turn the board so that it is facing to one side. Specifically, the "back" of the board, where the power switch is, should be facing to the left, while the "front" of the board, where the Wii logo is, should be facing to the right.

How to control your speed

  • Your speed is controlled by leaning towards or away from the screen. Because you have turned the balance board 90 degrees, so "towards the screen" means "to your left", and "away from the screen" means "to your right".
  • If you lean slightly towards the screen, you go very fast. You will know that you are leaning correctly when the red dot goes into the blue zone; the white zones will then turn yellow. You will also see speed lines as you ski.
  • If you lean too far towards the screen or if you not lean far enough towards the screen, you will go slower. If you lean as far as possible away from the screen, you will go very slowly.

How to steer

  • Shift your weight towards the sides of the screen. Again, because the board is turned 90 degrees, "lean to the left of the screen" means "lean backwards" and "lean to the right of the screen" means "lean forwards".

How to use the gates

Unlike the gates in Ski Slalom, the gates are just single two-pole flags, alternating red and blue, with a white arrow showing where you must pass the flag.

Scoring

  • Points are awarded for your speed plus seven seconds for each gate you missed.
  • The faster you get to the finishing line and the fewer the gates you miss, the better your score.

Hints and tips

  • Keep the red dot in the blue zone as much you can.
  • Steer as close to a straight line as you can manage.
  • To reduce the amount by which you have to turn your head, turn the board a bit less than 90 degrees.
