Object of the game

Your Mii has decided to become a footballer (a soccer player)! As part of his training, he has to learn to hit the ball with his head. His teammates, of course, have decided to add a little spice to his training session...

Equipment required

This game requires:

  • The Wii Balance Board

MET

Soccer Heading has a MET of 2, meaning that it is a light intensity activity.

Levels

There are two levels of Soccer Heading. Each takes place on the same football pitch.

Beginner

  • 80 balls are kicked at the player.
  • Fewer hazards than in the Advanced level.

Advanced

  • 120 balls are kicked at the player.
  • More hazards than in the Beginner level.

How to play the game

  • You must move your Mii so that he can hit the ball with his head or evade things that are not balls (see Hazards below).
  • To move, simply shift your weight to the left, right or centre of the Wii Balance Board.

Hazards

  • Sometimes, instead of kicking the ball at you, your teammates throw other things at you and if they hit, you lose points.
    • Shoes: -1 point.
    • Panda heads: -3 points.
  • You not only lose points when these things hit, but your scoring for successfully hitting balls is reset to one (see Scoring below).

Scoring

  • Each time you hit a ball, you score points: one point the first time, two the second, etc, up to a maximum of ten points per hit. Remember that if you miss a ball or are hit by a non-ball, then your scoring is reset to one.
  • Points are deducted for every non-ball that hit you.

Hints and tips

  • Watch as the kickers kick the ball: this gives you more time to work out where the ball is going to be so that you can position yourself to hit it. If you wait until the ball is right on top of you to move, you will often miss the ball.
  • Paying attention to the kickers as they do something also means it is easier to see and, consequently, evade non-balls, especially panda heads.
  • To distinguish the panda heads from the footballs, remember this mnemonic: panda heads are round and black-and-white, while footballs are black-and-white and round.

Silliness

  • The Mii dressed as a referee is always another registered player if you have one. This means that one of your friends or family members stands there and watches while the other Miis throw shoes and panda heads at you.
  • If you score really badly, your Mii will throw a temper tantrum, down on all fours beating the ground with a fist.
  • If you score at least reasonably well, your Mii will dance around, and the others will form a circle and jump up and down.
