Object of the Game

Your Mii has once again decided to enter a Hula Hoop challenge - an even longer one this time! He must keep his Hula Hoop turning and catch even more hoops.

Equipment required

This game requires:

  • The Wii Balance Board

MET

Super Hula Hoop has a MET of 4.0, meaning that it is a moderate intensity activity.

Time and Levels

There are three levels of Super Hula Hoop, Beginner, Advanced, and Super Advanced/Extreme. The game play is the same in all three levels, with the only difference being the time required:

  • Beginner requires 90 seconds on each side for a total of 3 minutes.
  • Advanced requires 3 minutes on each side for a total of 6 minutes.
  • Extreme requires 5 minutes on each side for a total of 10 minutes.

How to play the game

You follow the basic game play procedure twice, once going clockwise (to the right) and once going anti-clockwise (to the left).

  • Stand on the Wii Balance Board and move your hips in a circle, as if you had a hula hoop around them.
  • At the start, you have one hoop at hip level, and by moving correctly, you will work this up to shoulder height.
  • When you are moving correctly, you will get a tinkly sound similar to the one you get in Rhythm Parade when you move your feet at the right time.
  • When you get the hoop to shoulder height, one or other of the two Miis at the back of the screen will throw you another hoop. It flies very slowly, and you have plenty of time to stop turning and lean in the right direction. If you do this wrong, the hoop bounces off and you must work your existing hoop up again. If you catch the hoop, you have two, and when you have worked them both up to shoulder height, you will receive another. You can repeat this until you have a grand total of five hoops.

At the end of the first half, you have a few seconds to catch your breath before you must begin again in the opposite direction. The game will begin again without any button pressing. The game differs in this way from Ski Jump, where you must press the A button to start the second half.

Scoring

  • Your score is based on the number of turns you make.
  • A turn gives you a number of points equal to the number of hoops you have at that moment.
  • You score for both directions and add the two scores together.

Hints and tips

  • Accurately hitting all "corners" of the hip circle is essential. If you try to shortcut the turns to get more speed, you will find that the Miis wait longer before throwing you more hoops, and this costs you points.
  • Super Hula Hoop is a good exercise for toning the waist.
  • It is important to catch all the hoops and to work them up to shoulder height as quickly as possible.
  • Practice, practice, and practice, but bear in mind that this is a fairly intense exercise.

Silliness

  • If you miss a hoop, the Mii who threw it hangs his head, but whether in sorrow or shame, it is difficult to tell.
  • Once you have all five hoops, the other Miis start doing the same sort of hip-circling moves as you, but they do not have any hoops.
  • When you finish, if you did well, your Mii does this as well.
  • This game takes place on the same Sixties pop show set as Perfect 10, but they have removed all the mushrooms.
